Harry Mulisch: Die Entdeckung des Himmels

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Haruki Murakami: Hard-boiled wonderland and the End of the world

This book is really fascinating. The story consists of two parallel stories which merge in the end, though they are really far away from each other at first. Murakami, Japan’s famous writer, is great, his language with its unusual comparisons combined with the very creative and thrilling parallel story with its unique characters is just pure delight to read. For me, this is his best book!

Mo Hayder: Tokyo

This book is not for the weak hearted. There is a historical component, the Nanking Massacre in China, while the actual story is taking place in Tokyo, where a girl tries to find a movie made during the massacre. The story is thrilling and frightening and yet in cultural view very interesting. You also get an image of the Nanking Massacre which in my mind is a must for historically interested people.
